THE RUBBER TREE CULTIVATION IN

THE STATE OF SÃO PAULO, BRAZILABSTRACT: The State of São Paulo is the main Brazilian producer of natural rubber. Over the 1995-96 period more then 17 million trees were cultivated in 40.5 thousand hectares and on 2,453 farms. The use of technology is proven to be strongly related to the educational level of the farmers. Almost 40% of the farmers have completed undergraduate studies, corresponding to 58% of the planted area. A profile of production and producers is also presented.
